The Super Mario Bros. Movie has become the 20th-highest grossing movie worldwide in cinema history with $1.278 billion in global receipts.

It is only $6 million away from surpassing Frozen and taking the 19th spot on the all-time box office charts.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie achieved the milestone of crossing $1 billion on its fourth weekend of release, making it the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time.

The film is expected to be one of the top contenders for the highest grossing film of 2023, securing a strong position in the box office rankings.

It is likely to rank within the top three or at least the top five grossing films of the year.

Among the top 20 highest grossing films, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the third animated film based on the traditional understanding and presentation of animation.

However, if the 2019 film The Lion King is included, The Super Mario Bros. Movie becomes the fourth animated film in the all-time box office top 20.

The Lion King and its predecessor, The Jungle Book, utilize a unique form of computer animation that aims to create the illusion of live-action, including live-action shots in the films' opening scenes.
